Hello, I am Asteria Atombomb! I’m a fat bodied striptease artist and educator currently located in Portland, Oregon, USA.
My movement journey has extended beyond 3 decades and has allowed me to circumnavigate the world. As a movement coach, it is my goal in life to create accessibility for ALL bodies in spaces that would otherwise turn its back on the art we create.
I spent a large part of my earlier years in the ballet world, trying to find my place and purpose, but as a dancer of a larger physique it felt like an endless pit I couldn’t climb out from. It wasn’t until I found the art of burlesque while living in Australia in 2015 that I was able to strip away the years of resentment ballet instilled in my body. For the first time in my life, I learned body acceptance.
After living in Australia and New Zealand, I found myself back state side with no set path. It wasn’t until I found Ecdysiast Pole Dance Studio in Portland, OR that I knew where my place would be. This was a place that accepted me as a fat bodied dancer immediately and supported my wish for inclusivity in movement spaces. It is at this point in my life that I discovered radical self love, through exploration of my own inner sensuality and creative freedom.
Now I live as a full time dancer, choreographer, burlesque performer, and movement coach. Something that I was told I could never do as a fat body, but look at me now!
Thank you to everyone who has ever believed in me!
Much love,
Asteria
Book Asteria for all your movement needs:
Burlesque /ˌbərˈlesk/ noun
an absurd or comically exaggerated imitation of something, especially in a literary or dramatic work; a parody.
a variety show, typically including striptease.
“I got my start doing burlesque in Cairns, Queensland, Australia while living on the Gold Coast in 2015. Since then, I have had the honor of gracing stages across Australasia and the United States. My style is eclectic and no two of my acts are the same. I love to draw inspiration from my background in dance and theater as well as my love of space and science fiction.
The reason why I am so drawn to the art of the striptease is because of it’s rich history and is an art form with no boundaries. Using the removal of clothing to tell a story or make a statement is powerful. As someone with a body that is not considered mainstream attractive, it is all the more important that I am visible on the stage. My body is a statement. . . ”
